She was a tree. (...and oh yes, that is Nini in the back as a construction worker!)
Our mother had wrapped her in brown grocery bags covered in glue, had her roll in leaves and taped some pine branches on her head. (...even taped some leaves to her sleeves!)
As her oldest sister (I was 12), I thought this was the dumbest costume ever, and definitely, with out a doubt, told her so.
Needless to say, she won Most Original!

First of all, Hooray for a post 'n' pic! Second of all, Anna looks so proud -- this was surely the seed for her future Lovebutt composition, "Tree Song" (When I was young life was easy/But now I wish I was a tree, see). Third of all, Nini looks like Noah Reibel! Fourth of all... it seems Halloween 2007 is upon us... Does Ruby have a costume picked out? Dario? Annie & Maggie? Soph, Henry & Carina? We haven't thought about it... hmmmm.
Been missing Anna even more than usual, I think the focus of my memories has shifted from the Anna who was in pain to healthy Anna and it's just a different kind of missing. Just craving having fun with her, telling her about wiping out on my bike, listening to stories about Ruby and Dario, planning a summer trip to Oregon...
I found a good picture of her from a party at Juliet's house in the winter of '91, I'll try to pull off a post 'n' pic, too, Yum.
This picture is so unspeakably cute. Thanks for posting the pic and the story, Yum. You are the Anna archivist, w/all of the old pics and stories. Anna really liked Halloween and Ruby and D had good costumes - I know Ruby was a super duck chicken or something a couple of years ago. Anyone know exactly what it was? I remember some good Halloweens at Reed and I do believe that the first time she met Chiq, correct me here if I'm wrong, was at a Halloween party when she was dressed as a dead stockbroker, and I think she wore this costume to school to teach that day at Bread and Roses. Anyway, sure am missing her, as usual. Would love to tell her about how Sophie *is* Velma and will dress accordingly on Halloween and how Henry and Carina are going to be the chicken and the egg, finally answering the eternal mindbender of which came first - Carina is going to be the egg b/c Henry makes such awesome chicken noises, so Carina is the egg by default, and since Carina was born first, little Baby A, now the answer is clear - the egg came first. Love love love love. Goddamn I miss Anna.

this is an awesome pic! anna was most original in just about every way! how I miss her. her beautiful children are most definitely following suit. I'll try to post a pic soon of Ruby holding Otis. She's wearing a really cool necklace that i'm pretty sure belonged to Anna and it looks as good on her as it did on Anna. Anna made everything look cool and original. If I had dressed like a tree I would have gotten, most dorky.
