Dario thinks about Mommy

Last Tuesday March 13th Dario began asking very early in the morning for new Mommy pictures. Unfortunately at that moment it was hectic in the classroom, and I couldn't figure out where we'd get new Mommy Pictures. Later that day it occurred to me to check the blog. He was so excited to see new photos of his Mommy. We printed them and added them to the growing collection. Dario spread them all out on the table while he cut some pieces of paper for Mommy.

That same day we'd gone for outing to St.John the Divine and Dario was thinking about the time we found a flower for Mommy in the Rose Garden. Sadly the Rose Garden was under construction (as well as the playground). We thought for a long time about where Dario could get another flower for Mommy. While we were cutting and printing pictures a Room One Family brought us a bouquet of flowers for curriculum night. Dario looked through all the flowers and chose a red rose for his Mommy. He asked me to take photos of him with the flower, and he spoke about he thought "Mommy likes this flower right?"

Amy, thank you for posting Dario pictures and stories, you must be the best teacher and caregiver in the Universe.
We'll think about Mommy a lot in Portland and look at pictures, too, I know Alicia has some good ones.

Amy,
Your love for Dario just jumps out of these posts. It makes me so happy for him, and for Anna, that he has you giving him such tender love right now. And these stories about him are just so amazing - thank you for keeping them up. I thought of a funny story about Dario that you can tell him - it's just a silly little thing, but my kids love to hear stories like this:

One time when Dario was an itty bitty baby, probably about two months old, before he even had his first heart surgery, I came to NYC to visit, to see Anna and Chiq and Ruby and to meet little Dario. He was so cute and calm. His mama came to my hotel to visit and she had him in a sling and he was all snuggled up and would just look around quietly and snooze and nurse every once in a while and his mama would kiss his sweet head quite often. One night, Anna and I went out to eat Ethopian food on Amsterdam and 106 - one of our favorite restaurants that we went to together very often when we both lived up that way and kept coming back to even after we moved to different neighborhoods - it's called Awash. I met Anna at her apartment (the one Dario lives in now) and we decided to take a cab. Ruby didn't come b/c she had to go to bed, but Dario was so little, he would just sleep in the sling. In the cab, Dario screamed and screamed and screamed and screamed and screamed the whole way there. It wasn't a very long ride, luckily, but he just hated that cab ride. Anna said he just wasn't used to riding in cars. We felt bad for him b/c he was also so happy and calm and he was so upset, but it was also kind of funny b/c he just screamed so loud and so long. But then once we got out of the cab, he was happy again and very good at the restaurant. We took the subway home.
